Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
GERD is an esophageal disorder of the lower esophageal sphincter allowing gastric contents to reflux into the esophagus, presenting as burning epigastric pain. It is diagnosed clinically and treated with lifestyle modification, antacid, and surgical repair.
Guillain Barre Syndrome
Guillain-Barre syndrome is an inflammatory polyneuropathy with ascending weakness and sensory loss. It is diagnosed clinically and treated with IVIG or palasma exchange.
Heart Failure
Heart failure is a dysfunction of either the right or left ventricle, which is diagnosed clinically and supported with imaging and plasma natriuretic peptide levels. It is treated with goal-directed medical therapy (GDMT).

Leiomyoma (Uterine Fibroid)
Leiomyomas are uterine fibroids that appear on the uterus, causing pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and urinary issues. They are screened for on bimanual pelvic exam and confirmed with ultrasound or MRI, then treated with NSAIDs, oral contraceptives, or surgery.
Lichen Sclerosus
Lichen sclerosus is a dermatologic condition characterised by genital itching leading to atrophic, thinned skin. Is is diagnosed clinically and treated with corticosteroids.
Measles
Measles is a viral infection characterised by Koplik spots during the prodome and rash during the active infection. It is diagnosed clinically and confirmed by serology or RT-PCR. It is treated supportively.
Meckel Diverticulum
Meckel diverticulum is a congenital defect presenting as ectopic gastric mucosa, causing rectal bleeding and abdominal pain. It is diagnosed with a technetium-99m pertechnetate scan and treated with surgery.
Menopause
Menopause is the cessation of menses above the age of 40. It is diagnosed retroactively based on lack of menses for 12 or more months. It is treated with hormone therapy.
Mitral Stenosis
Mitral stenosis is a valvulopathy due to the mitral valve obstructing blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle, presenting with heart failure symptoms and pulmonary hypertension. It is diagnosed with echocardiography and treated with diuretics, beta-blockers, anticoagulants, comissurotomy, or valve replacement.
